Crayon Rocks are super cute crayons shaped as rocks. Made by a women named Barbara Lee who taught special needs children for 23 years. She learned after a Handwriting Without Tears program how important it was to develop early a good tripod grip. Handwriting skills depend in it. Since a child's first writing tool is usually a crayon, that crayon should be one that encourages him or her to use thumb, first and second fingers in a tripod grip. This is what makes Crayon Rocks a wonderful tool for fine motor development.
I used my Crayon Rocks and thought they were excellent. Sometimes different brands of crayons fall apart easily or don't have good transfer to paper when drawing. I felt the Crayon Rocks took very little effort when putting color on my paper. They blended nice and didn't leave crayon dust or bumpy areas. Each Crayon Rock applied very rich colors and were easy to hold. So far they have lasted and not really worn out. I have used them numerous times. Crayon Rocks would be good for any child. But I can see the benefits they would have for with grip strength problems or disorders effecting fine motor skills.
I received a red velvet bag with 16 Crayon Rocks in it. The colors were: red, pink, blue, sky, green, grass, dark yellow, light yellow, orange, peach, purple, light purple, brown, tan, black, gray. For only $8.95 these would make perfect stocking stuffers or an addition to any gift that has the need for coloring. There are other packs, check out Crayon Rocks for all the great packs they sell.
